A year-old man has appeared in court accused of firearms offences. Paul Hancock, of Leicester Place, Bentilee, is charged with being a drunken person in possession of a loaded firearm and possessing a firearm in a public place. He has previously pleaded guilty to drink-driving, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and driving without insurance. Magistrates at North Staffordshire Justice Centre were told the case was adjourned two months ago to allow an expert instructed by Hancock’s solicitors to examine a firearm, but this has not yet been done. The case was therefore adjourned again and Hancock will next appear at court on August 2. Two teenagers have admitted burgling a house. Bradley also admitted three offences of fraud.

History[ edit ] The area that is now Bradley Stoke was once a farmland north of the village of Stoke Gifford near Bristol city. The land was divided between the civil parishes of Stoke Gifford and Almondsbury. Some of the lands were used as pasture. Baileys Court Farmhouse is the only original building that exists and was used as offices by the towns developers before becoming the Bailey’s Court Inn.

Watch Elm Farm was named after the Watch Elm, an elm of a legendary size that blew down in the mid 18th century. The Stoke Brook flows through the middle of Bradley Stoke. During its development, the new settlement faced some problems in the wake of a national recession. At the time, Bradley Stoke was reputed to be one of Europe’s largest private housing developments and did struggle to develop at first to establish itself as an identifiable town unlike other earlier new towns which were supported by a New Town Development Corporation , as the settlement relied principally on private investment within a restricted statutory framework of the local authority Northavon District Council within the Avon County Council area.

A combination of private house builder led the development and with only limited input from commercial businesses and the consequent recession resulted in the new town gaining a reputation for being a soulless housing estate with only limited facilities and no town centre, with the exception of a Tesco supermarket. High-interest rates during the early s soon led to the collapse of the property market in the area with many new homes falling into negative equity.

This led to the branding of the new town as, accurately named, ‘Sadly Broke’ [3] until property values and the development market began to recover. Governance[ edit ] Bradley Stoke has a Town Council made up of 15 Councillors elected from 7 wards to administer the local issues. The three standing committees of the Town Council acts as deliberative wings of the Council.

Decisions of the Council are carried out by officers and staff employed by the Council headed by the Town Clerk.

Wages throughout the country: Graphic The headline figures in this year’s annual survey of hours and earnings — the official survey of wages across the United Kingdom — make difficult enough reading on their own: However, even this figure masks several ills in the current state of the UK labour market, with falling numbers in full-time work, rising wage inequality, and slowing progress in reaching equality in pay between women and men.

History[ edit ] The village appears as “Rode” in the Domesday Book , but the spelling was labile from an early date: This was reverted to the older spelling “Rode” by Somerset County Council in The old village was positioned around St Lawrence’s church along the main thoroughfare known as Rode Major; now on the ordnance map as “Church Row”. However, many parts of the old village were damaged in a fire and the ruins can be seen in the field adjoining the church.

At one point Rode was home to four or five wool mills which created great wealth for the village and funded the construction of many large houses in the village, such as Rode Manor, Langham House, Milfield House and Southfield House. During the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries the village centre thrived enough for Rode to be known as a market town. In winning the prize a mill in the village invented the dye Royal Blue and received a certificate to sell it under that name.

The case was investigated by Detective Inspector Jack Whicher. Although released at her committal hearing , Kent was later to confess, was charged and received the mandatory death sentence.
